Backend engineer. Distributed systems, developer tooling, and small experiments.

I work on backend infrastructure: replication, scheduling, storage, and the unglamorous glue that keeps services from falling over. Most of my day is spent reading traces, asking why a queue is empty, and trying to make a system fail in a boring way.

Before that I worked on build tooling and internal dashboards. I still believe a good diff is worth more than a long meeting, and that most reliability problems are ownership problems in disguise.

What I'm doing now

Maintaining a couple of small tools, writing notes about the parts of distributed systems that are hard to learn from a diagram, and slowly improving the way I measure things. I prefer simple systems with obvious failure modes over clever systems with hidden ones.
